Hogle Zoo

 

Illustrations are always fun and I was given a great opportunity to recreate the Hogle Zoo map. My goal with the map recreation was to focus on the user experience. I spend a few days walking through the park observing guests and found that people had a hard time navigating because the existing map wasn’t detailed enough. There was also an opportunity to use an illustrated map to further engage guests and increase satisfaction.

Planning and Process

 

There were a lot of parts that had to be carefully planned out with creating such a large and complex illustrated map. Buildings and animals had to be sketched in various perspectives and each element had to be individually illustrated by hand using Adobe Illustrator. In order to make the process more efficient, I created many of the elements in different files and combined them once most of them were completed.
